Beetles, Moths & Weevils

Carpet Beetle
Carpet Beetle

Carpet beetles range in size from 1/16” to 1/8” in length. They are oval in shape, and covered with white, black, and yellow scales. They are white underneath and have two body segments.


Cigarette Beetle
Cigarette Beetle

Is 1/16” to 1/8” long. They are light brown in color, and look humpbacked. It has saw like antennae and smooth wing covers. They have two body segments


Click Beetle
Click Beetle

These beetles range from a size of ¼” to 11/4”. They are elongated. Most are brown or black in color. These beetles or flat with backward projections on each side behind its head/shield. When turned on their back they click their segments together (which sounds like a click) to flip themselves over.


Drugstore Beetle

Is 1/16” to 1/8” long. They are light brown to red-brown with two body segments. Their wing covers on their back have grooves that run the length of their body.


Saw Toothed Grain Beetle
Saw Toothed Grain Beetle

These are small beetles around 1/8” long. They are flat, slender, and dark brown in color. They have three body segments with the second body segment having six saw like teeth on each side.


Flour Beetle

These beetles are approx. 1/8” long. They are red-brown in color, slender, and have three body segments.. The ends of their antennae are clubbed.


Clothes Moth
Clothes Moth

Is approx. ½” long. They are approx. ½” long from wing tip to wing tip. Their wings are a golden color with reddish color hair on their head, their eyes are black.


Grain Moth
Grain Moth

These moths are approx. 3/16” to ¼” in length. They range in color from grey, dirty brown, to a yellowish tent. Most grain moths can be found in the pantry in the kitchen, around dog food, nuts, dead flower arrangements, and grain silos. They can be found in flower, cereal, bird seeds, cake mixes, pasta, corn, or rice. The most common place to find these moths is in the pantry.

The flour moth is ¼” to ½” long with a wing span of less than 1”. Their front wings are pale grey with black lines running across them. Their back wings are a dirty white in color.


Indian Meal Moth

These moths have a 5/8” to ¾” wing span. Their wings have a dark copper, almost purple with a grey band near where they attach to the body.


Granary Weevil

Is 1/8” to 1/4 “ in length. These weevils are a shiny red-brown to black in color. Their heads are elongated with a long slender snout. Their bodies are elongated and have pits or grooves all over their backs.


Rice Weevil

Is approx. 1/8” long. They are a dull red-brown in color. Their body is elongated with a long slender snout. They have four light red or yellow spots on their wing covers on their back
