Identification

The Brown Banded Roach is about ½ inch long. They are identified as being light brown to brown in color. They have two yellowish bands across the top of their body. The back of their head is a dark brown to black in color. Females are darker in color and larger than the males, both have wings and can fly.

Biology

The Brown Banded roach lays more egg sacks in her life span than the American roach. She will lay 13 to 16 egg sacks, each sack or capsule may have from 14 to 20 eggs in each. The female will hid her egg sacks in out of the way places, attaching them under cabinets, behind pictures, behind stoves, under refrigerators, in furniture, in appliances, and under tables. They can hide them through out the home/structure. Adult roaches only live for about 6 months.

Habits

Brown Banded Roaches like warm dry environments. They do not like damp dark places as do American roaches. They are not as common in homes as the German roach. They are found in high places off the ground in structures. Around crown molding, curtain rods, card board boxes, above door frames in closets, behind pictures and things on the wall, in electrical lights on the ceiling, in cabinets, furniture, appliances, tables, and attics.

They feed on foods, oils, spices and scraps left by humans. Trash cans, toasters, around ovens, coffee machines, drink machines, food dispensing machines, microwaves, refrigerators, and crumbs and food pieces left around cabinets and furniture.
