The armadillo is most easily identified by its shell on its back. This shell is made out of bone. The armadillo is a mammal. They have a long tail that is protected by segmented shields. They have short strong front legs used for digging. These mammals feed on small insects, plants, roots and crops. They can damage lawns and flower beds looking for insects and grubs.
